IIRC, the front of the car is to the right in this diagram, I'm not quite sure anymore. But yes, the numbers coincide with the cylinders, so there is a way in which you can align the diagram with your engine.

Hey Bjoern. I have a question about your wiring diagram on the MAF conversion. Is the diagram of the injector wiring from the top view of the engine? Because I'm guessing the injector numbers don't coinside with the cylinder numbers? Thanks

Awesome, thanks. Just left a comment at the article and will write a short blog post, too.

They have a feature to suggest interesting stuff, though it might fit in nicely with the other stories they run.

The auto tranny is a problem, because you have a very limited choice of computers. Unfortunately, I have no idea about auto trannies and can't help you there. Conversion to standard is a big deal and not for the faint of heart.
I bought a book on Ford EFI which I found to be very helpful and I learned a lot from it. I think it was this one:

hey bjoern, ive had your maf conversion in my favorites forever... i finally rebuilt the engine, but put in a lumpier cam, along with some other minor mods, so now basically, it runs, but with the old map sensor, not so good. thats alot of technical words, and all ive worked on up to this point is oldies with carbs and no EFI, but im learning alot and im loving it. i have one difference, but i dont think it bothers anything, i have an automatic transmission, so if i install the maf system out of a newer pickup it may want to read the e40d when i just have an aod... unless maybe i can find one with a standard transmission?? i dunno, im getting so confused with all this technology, i would like to do it step by step just as you did. can you help me somehow?

I looked into this and it should work fine.
Ford programmed the computer to wait for a certain number of crankshaft revolutions before it looks for the exhaust pulse for that cylinder, and that value can be changed, so if the o2 sensor is to far away(like with long tube headers) it will run different.
Thanks again, you are a genius!
bullet bjoern on Monday 18 June 2007 - 01:38:21
Splitting doesn't change a thing, since the voltage doesn't change in parallel wires. So the computer actually "sees" two O2 sensors, that's all. It works just the same as with two sensors, only that you can't differentiate between the two banks if something goes wrong (and it may be less sensitive to small changes in one bank only).
bullet Howard on Monday 18 June 2007 - 01:18:28
Ignore the firing order question, I found your schematic, but the O2 sensor split signal is sheer genius if it works for this conversion!
There is no work around for the injector firing order except to change the cam(or reprogram the computer), but your way lets you re-pin the computer...I am not sure if splitting the signal makes it run rich or lean...hmm.
bullet howard on Monday 18 June 2007 - 01:01:41
bjoern, I am doing a MAF conversion like you did on your truck, I have 2 questions, what firing order did you wire the injectors for, and how do you think connecting the right and left oxygen sensor inputs together will change the way the computer runs or deals with signal?
Great site BTW and thanks!

Hey, cool to hear from you! This paper was the first one or two slides of my talk. For the rest I'm currently doing more experiments per reviewer request.
